Sunday School

Sunday Mornings

Little Lambs Sunday School

"Let the children come to me. Don't keep them away.
God's kingdom belongs to people like them." Mark 10:14

This class is for 1 year olds to 7 year olds and starts at 11 am in a downstairs classroom. Parents stay with children younger than 3 years old. Class is dismissed to worship at communion time.

Class curriculum offers Bible stories about God and his Son, Jesus. A singing time, playtime, and craft time are also included. It is our hope that each child will experience God's love in Jesus and begin to respond to that love as the Holy Spirit plants seeds in each of these little ones' hearts.

Middle Schoolers Sunday Class

SOV's 6th-8th Grade class meets Sundays from 10-10:45am upstairs in the Church and focuses on Bible study and how it relates to each one of us personally in the modern day. Our course materials covers a two year cycle and is "Echo: The Story" by Spark House publishing. Year one introduces many classical stories from the Old Testament. Progressing through time, the second year we reach the New Testament learning about the many acts of Jesus. Our final module reviews examples of Jesus' parables, the Lord's Prayer and the true meaning of the Kingdom of God, Jesus' encounters with unbelievers and sinners, a growing threat to Jesus from religious leaders, the Last Supper and Jesus' resurrection.

To help mental retention, we start class with a 5 minute video which reviews the previous week's discussion. A new topic is introduced by asking the students to ponder and share answers related to a modern day situation or question. After the bible reading, discussion topics attempt to frame the meaning of the 2,000 year old bible story into today's world, inviting the class to interpret how Jesus and others were feeling at the time of the story as well as applying it to their own lives. By implementing this teaching approach, our intent is to demonstrate the current day meaning and value the Bible has on our lives, rather than the Bible seeming to exist as an outdated historical text. Our hope and challenge is that this approach will encourage the students to begin to adopt a solid belief foundation in Christ of their own free will that will last a lifetime.
