Policy Statement on Christian Program
Kids of the Kingdom Christian Child Care Center operates as a ministry of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church (a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). We aspire to provide high quality childcare in a safe, loving Christian environment. As a Shepherd of the Valley ministry, the Center tries to touch children and their families in an extension of our mission statement--"We are a caring community, touched by Christ and touching others for Christ."
The Center operates on the general philosophy that children learn through play. Within that philosophy, we strive to nurture the whole child--physically, socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. We nurture the child's spiritual aspects by sharing God's love in our daily care. Kids of the Kingdom offers children continuous opportunities to experience Christian values and the joy of Jesus in our lives.
We believe that God should be part of our daily routine. Trained staff at the Center freely discuss God and Jesus while the curriculum and daily schedule include Bible stories, prayer and Christian songs. Our themes and special events recognize the Church calendar and include Bible themes, but do not ignore the secular world around us. For example, the Center celebrates Christmas as Jesus' birthday but also includes Santa Claus and Rudolph.
Kids of the Kingdom exposes the children to God's love, but we do not intend to recruit or convert them. We do not require any Church membership for the children or their families and do not try to solicit new members for our Church. Shepherd of the Valley simply hopes to share its gifts and God's love through this ministry while filling a community need for quality childcare.
The song that we adopted in our Center's name can best sum up our philosophy:
Kids of the Kingdom, that's what we are;
